Agri Retail’s core applications are running on IBM i. Examples are FIS2000 for financial services and homegrown applications for invoice matching and product administration.  The company has been utilizing OS/400 and i5/OS since the introduction of these systems. In the beginning of 2011 Agri Retail will upgrade the IBM Power System to i5/OS V6R1.

Agri Retail has been using APD/400 for many years to control user access to the applications running on i5. Due to the upgrade to i5/OS V6.1, they have to search for an alternative of APD/400. IBM has decided to stop supporting and developing of APD/400 further from i5/OS V5.3

IBM’s APD/400

APD/400 stands for Application Program Driver/400 and integrates Application System/400 (iSeries, i5) applications into a common processing environment for IBM applications, third party and homegrown applications. APD/400 provides a standard interface where functions common to other integrated applications can be used in the same way. APD/400 facilitates the work of end users, system operators, application administrators and application developers.

iMenu400 at Agri Retail

In September 2010 Agri Retail has replaced APD/400 with iMenu400. SRC Secure Solutions has provided consultancy to implement and configure iMenu400. Agri Retail decided to implement and configure from scratch.

In the years since the initial implementation of APD/400  there have been a number of employees leaving and joining the company and new applications were introduced. The migration to iMenu400 was used to clean up the system.

Based on key-users reference groups were defined in iMenu400. Much of the work of Agri Retail refers to the integration of iMenu400 with the different applications in use.

All features and functionalities which were in use by Agri Retail are available within iMenu400. The implementation and configuration of iMenu400 to replace APD/400 to iMenu400 took only a couple of days from Agri Retail. SRC Secure Solutions provided support to the retailing company for half a day.
